Join us for an afternoon of sound reflecting on artist Gary Simmons's sculptural installation, Recapturing Memories of the Black Ark. Participate in Suzi Analogue’s “Synthesis & Spirit: Amplifying Existence Thru Sound” workshop and live set that will guide us on a journey of her use of synthesizers and amplifying sound. She will take us through her spiritual view and methods of electronic music creation by way of Gary Simmon’s Black Ark installation.
This workshop showcases Analogue’s techniques of using deliberate sounds like bass, delay, sampling and of course synth as voice in ways that amplify her existence, reinforce her culture, and experiences in recording primarily in marginalized communities. These deliberate sonic actions are employed to connect further to a larger human framework. These electronic techniques are a departure from her family's pre-existing cultural traditions of gospel, jazz, and R&B, and are her own way of connecting sonically into the future, which leaves one to think, how can I converge my traditional culture with technology and still become amplified?
