Flora Ranis is a young visual artist who utilizes stone, metal, and paper to slow down rapidly shifting news cycles. Born and raised in Broward County, Ranis's paintings and sculptures often celebrate individuals in her community who have been marginalized by both historic and contemporary abuse. Her newest series Endangered aims to combat Governor DeSantis's attempts to rid educational spaces of discussions around sexual orientation and gender identity. Queerness cannot be banned; it is as natural as Florida’s river of grass. In Endangered, Ranis uses watercolors to connect the vast beauty and power of queer bodies with the vastness of the Florida Everglades.
