The partnership, underwritten by a two-year, $100,000 grant from Mitchell Wolfson Sr Foundation, will commission two NWSA alumni visual artists and provide them with curatorial support to share their work with Commissioner’s growing member community. Launching this initiative is Miami-based artist-activist Chire Regans with A Reflection of the Times, a memorial exhibition of portraiture that opens to Commissioner members on May 20th, and to the public from May 21st through November 1st, at Bakehouse Art Complex. Using video as the virtual stage, 20 Miami-based performing artists will each be awarded $1,000 to create new works of dance, music, theater, spoken word and other performing arts that capture our community’s unique voice and experience during this unprecedented crisis. The new video works will be showcased on the Arsht Center’s website and promoted across the Center’s social media platforms and in the Arsht@Home e-newsletter.Details for the video proposals, submission criteria and other guidelines are at arshtcenter.org/heart-art-submission. Kicking off the showcase, Objects Rising Stars Exhibition, presented at the New World Gallery, features a wide-range of artwork created by the college and high school students of the prestigious New World School of the Arts. “The theme for this year’s exhibition highlights the art of an object,” said Maggy Cuesta, dean of Visual Arts. “In approaching the show, we are focusing on a thing to which a specific action or feeling is directed. For example, a graphic design piece could be an object, or it could be promoting an object.
