American composer and accordionist Sam Reider and Venezuelan Jorge Glem, a master of the cuatro, the small guitar-like instrument essential in Venezuelan music, were born into different creative traditions but have found fertile common ground in their cross-cultural collaboration. Reider and Glem, a founding member of the Latin Grammy Award-winning C4 Trio, bonded early on over their shared musical virtuosity and curiosity. The encounter resulted in a repertoire of songs blending enduring Latin American forms like merengue and joropo and elements of American roots music and traditional jazz. The title of the duo's first recording, Brooklyn Cumaná, pays tribute to their respective hometowns. The complex and beautiful fusion music of Reider and Glem will have its live premiere at the Koubek Center.
Jorge Glem will be conducting a FREE cuatro masterclass from 3PM-4:30PM at the Koubek Center prior to the concert.
