The Mountaintop
Thru Sun 09/22/2024
The Mountain Top is an Olivier Award-winning play that "pulses with a new sense of urgency" (Entertainment Weekly). Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Katori Hall (The Hot Wing King), the play offers a gripping and imaginative reimagining of the night before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination. Set on April 3, 1968, at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, the play portrays an exhausted Dr. King retiring to his room after delivering one of his most memorable speeches. A young woman named Camae, who mysteriously delivers room service, engages him in a humorous conversation that evolves into a profound discussion about their shared hopes and fears. When Camae reveals a startling secret, Dr. King is compelled to confront his destiny and the legacy he will leave behind. Described as "audacious [and] inventive" (Associated Press), The Mountain Top is directed by Alliance Theatre's Jennings Hertz Artistic Director Tinashe Kajese-Bolden (The Preacher’s Wife).
