Juan de los Muertos tells the story of an unexpected appearance of zombies in Havana, which the Cuban regime attributes to dissidents and the imperialist enemy.
Juan and his crony Lázaro are two lazy rogues, survivors of failed Castro social experiments, such as the so-called “special period.”
The plague of violence that plagues the city makes them found a private company so that families can get rid of their aggressive zombie relatives: “Juan of the Dead: we kill your loved ones.”
The film satirizes the absurdity of totalitarian society through the horror genre and one of its most popular variants: zombies, or the living dead.
Juan de los Muertos stars Alexis Díaz de Villegas, Jorge Molina and Jazz Vilá, among others.
